Florida: White Man Shoots Black Man in the Face Because He was “Only a Nigger.”

Walton Henry Butler shot a black man in the face on Monday night. No big deal; heck, he’s just yet another white man who felt the need to take the life of an unarmed black man. As crazy as that might sound, even crazier (to me at least) is that there’ll be no talk of gun control, or rallies sparked by sensationalized media driven headlines on race — you know, somewhat much in the same way they did when Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman? Hypocritical? Of course. But, why make a big deal out of it? After all, as Butler put it when arrested, he “only shot a nigger.”

Apparently it’s against the law to shoot unarmed African-Americans in Florida; that is, unless they’re “niggers.”

No word on whether his victim, Everett Gant, wore a hoodie or was unfortunate to be carrying a pack of Skittles and a can of ice tea. However, something tells me that if he was, this wouldn’t be a big deal either. Now let’s see how many are willing to support Butler by contributing funds to a website to solicit monetary donations for his legal defense. After all, wasn’t Butler’s actions part of God’s plan?

Port St. Joe – A Port St. Joe man is charged with attempted murder, with a hate crime enhancement, after admitting to shooting a black man in the head Monday night. Gulf County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Walton Henry Butler, 59, just after 9pm at the Pine Ridge Apartments off Garrison Avenue. Deputies say he admitted to shooting the victim, 32-year-old Everett Gant, with a 22 caliber rifle. Gant is in guarded condition at Bay Medical Center, he is expected to survive.

Deputies say Butler had been calling black children in the apartment complex racial slurs and Gant went to talk with him about the comments. Witnesses say Butler opened the door and shot Gant in the face. Butler told deputies after he shot Gant, he shut the door, called 911 and finished cooking dinner.

When Sheriff Nugent arrived Butler told him he did not understand the problem and acted as if he was being inconvenienced. “He was brought to the investigation unit where he was interviewed and basically admitted to shooting the victim and said he shot a, used a racial slur, and said that is what he shot and acted like it was not like a big deal or anything to him,” said Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent.

Butler is in the Gulf County jail. He will have his first appearance Tuesday morning. (source)

As inconvenienced as Butler may have felt by this arrest, to his credit, he didn’t justify his actions by claiming self-defense. But then again, maybe he did act in self-defense. Maybe, just maybe, the presence of an African-American at his door posed a threat to his right to be a racist son-of-a-bitch. After all, how dare a person of color breathes the white man’s air, or even knock on his door, right?
