One of our special guests last week on Madness & Reality Radio was notable blogger, writer and TV commentator, Danielle Belton. Her critically acclaimed blog The Black Snob is well-known; and, she is also Editor-at Large for Clutch Magazine online and was the head writer for BET’s Don’t Sleep w/ T.J. Holmes. In light of recent events involving Aaron Alexis, Miriam Carey, and Josh Marks all covered on this blog who were all documented o be struggling with mental health. We discussed mental health and the black community. Most importantly, we discussed the stigma associated with mental health issues from a cultural and racial perspective. Danielle Belton as an advocate for mental health suffers from bipolar disorder and it was a pleasure having the opportunity to discuss this often overlooked topic with her and the host of callers who also struggle with mental health. Hopefully, by listening, you’ll have a better understanding of what it is like to be a black with mental health issues in America.

About the author

RiPPa is the creator, publisher, and editor-in-chief of The Intersection of Madness & Reality. As a writer, he uses his sense of humor, sarcasm, and sardonic negro wit to convey his opinion. Being the habitual line-stepper and fire-breathing liberal-progressive, whether others agree with him, isn’t his concern. He loves fried chicken, watermelon, and President Barack Obama. Yes, he's Black; yes, he's proud; and yes, he says it loud. As such, he's often misunderstood.
