Slave Catcher Alert: Morgan Freeman Says Obama Not America’s First Black President

Jul 06, 2012 14 Comments by

So actor Morgan Freman said that Pres. Obama isn’t America’s first black president. And now that scientist have found the God Particle, which has completely killed the notion of God looking anything Yoda or a black guy who wears white outfits. I suppose Morgan Freeman is frustrated.

Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors. Not exactly a renowned rabble rouser as far as the industry goes, trust me, he’s the epitome of what many of us consider to be a :safe negro. And how safe is he exactly? Well, let’s just say that more white folks would vote for him in 2012 than they would Barack Obama Ironically, in his latest movie The Magic of Belle Isle, Freeman plays a struggling writer who fight the demons of alcoholism. In a recent interview with NPR’s Michele Martin on Tell Me More, Freeman made an interesting comment when asked about the historical impact of the election of America’s black president. Freeman, an Obama supporter said the following:

“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him … they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America,” Freeman said. “There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”

At first I wanted to give him credit for his statement. I figured he was taken out of context; but when I actually listened to the interview, it was quite clear that he meant what he said the way he intended and is being interpreted. And how so? Because in the very same interview he jokingly mentioned that he mentioned to Bill Clinton that he was America’s first black president.

Freeman also mentioned in the interview that he once had a drinking problem. Well, my guess is that he still has that problem because he’s obviously hitting the bottle. But I respect Freeman; like I said, Freeman is one of my favorite actors of all time. And of course there’s a certain God-like quality to him which reminds us of the inerrancy of the Bible. But with all that aside, I’m just going to go on record and say that Freeman’s position is one that gives rise to a certain mindset that exists in America today. It’s the mindset shared by many who take no pride in validating the symbolism that is an Obama presidency. Which is quite peculiar considering Obama being the first president to have his citizenship questioned and debated publicly in a court of law as it has.

The question I have for Freeman and others who think like him, however: Since Barack Obama is half white and not the first black president, is America only racist by half? Surely we all know the answer to that question given the flawed media-driven post-racial narrative. But as much as I love Freeman, I’m going to give him a pass by saying: Barack Obama is black; and you’re not really God, Morgan; oh yeah, and sit’cho ass down. Like one of my friends on Twitter said: clearly, Morgan Freeman has officially entered his cranky crazy old black man stage of his life.

I’m sorry, but Obama’s mother being white means nothing; it gets no “blacker” than a sperm deposit directly from Kenya that didn’t have to travel here via the Middle Passage. Come to think of it, that’s probably why they hate him more; his daddy was one of the ones who got away; but that’s just me.

So, Pres. Obama is the first “mixed-race” president in a world that regards him as a black man. Meanwhile, Clinton remains our “first black president.” Does Morgan Freeman not see the irony in this? A black man being put down for his supposed deficiencies while a white guy gets undeserved credit for some non-existent thing?

I lot of people feel that Obama is the first Black President but not the first African American President. Since his father was not American then he’s not African American but Kenyan American.

As far as Morgan Freeman; he’s just an actor, what does he know.

How dare you question God’s will! (Sorry, I had to do that)

for Obama to be Kenyan American he would have to have immigrated from Kenya (which he could have given lack of proper documentation). That is the whole problem with the African American classification. It is flawed because no black americans were born in Africa. It should just be American (like white people do it) or if someone insists on being special it can be black american. But African American is a misnomer.

Also, have you ever been to Kenya? They all insist that Obama is not a US citizen. I tend to believe them. They have those honest eyes that just wouldn’t lie.

    Yawn.
So let me get this straight: If Morgan Freeman had said that Obama was American’s first black president, he would be okay in your eyes, but because he says he’s a mixed race, he isn’t.
I suppose you have the same mentality when it comes to Tiger Woods? Except that Tiger Woods doesn’t consider himself to be black.

      Are you white?

      • Mwatuanghi

Probably. I’ve seen quite a few use this dumbf*ck logic when it comes to Black people being represented. Clearly, Obama identifies as Black and has no qualms expressing it, but of course, *some people* have to take that as “reverse racism”.

Just trying to clarify whether he chacks the “white” box, or the “other” box when asked.

Its not reverse racism, it is just goofy. It is a legitimate questions to ask. If Morgan Freeman is nuts for thinking Obama is mixed as opposed to Blackest Black does that make other people who agree with him nuts? A good example is Tiger Woods. It is a legitimate question to ask.

This is pretty hilarious. So many icons in Black history would be omitted if we stuck to such a simplistic and reductionist view of Blackness. Normally, I’d question why people like Freeman continue to religiously follow a classification system that was inherently racist when it was first created, but I’d be out of place. God works in mysterious ways, after all.

Malcolm X wouldn’t be considered black if we removed histories tainted by black blood notions of days gone past.

I really respect and enjoy Morgan Freeman. I think his comment is more about white America and its color-aroused ideation, emotion and voting behavior than it is critical of Barack Obama.

Let’s face it: It really IS more likely that a light-skinned brown man like Colin Powell, Harry Belafonte or Barack Obama would be the first man of African descent to be elected president of the United States. Don’t ad agencies still request Black actors whose skin is not too dark?

It doesn’t surprise me that Morgan Freeman asserts that white America accepts Obama more easily because his mother was as white as macaroni. Are you asserting that you know Morgan Freeman to be wrong about this?

American whites and Blacks are still color-aroused and there is still a difference between the reaction to the skin color of a half-white man and the reaction to the skin color of a person with two dark parents who has inherited their dark color.

That doesn’t diminish Obama’s achievements, since electing a man with ANY recent African ancestry remains an exceptional stroke of brilliance. But, to white people, Obama having a white mother as a reference might well have made it easier for Obama to get the job. With all the color-aroused debate over just how alien Obama might be, photographs of his white mother and maternal grandparents are his proof that he is at least half white American and, therefore, not as alien to whites as he might otherwise be.

  • Francis L. Holland

Also, consider the possibility that Morgan Freeman is actually trying to HELP Obama with the white electorate by denying him full Blackness and asserting that Obama is half-white!

Are there any white people who are LESS likely to support Obama because he has one white parent that they would be if he had two Black parents? Probably not.

Suppose you conducted a poll and asked white voters if their white neighbors would respond more positively to a Black candidate when the candidate’s white family members campaign with him (even if only through old photographs of these white family members). If 15% of white people say the white relatives’ support would help, then Morgan Freeman is helping Obama with a potentially crucial swing voter group by pointing out that Obama has white relatives.

There’s no downside to this strategy. The fact that some Blacks are perceived as rejecting Obama for not being Black enough only HELPS Obama with whites who want a president who is not “too Black.” Obama benefits with leverage among whites both by having the near total support of Blacks (he comes to the table with a strong base) AND he benefits when some Blacks point out that Obama is half-white, because that makes him more acceptable to at least SOME whites.
