I don’t want to take anything away from Jesse Williams. His acceptance speech at the BET Awards last night was indeed profound – very profound, greatly needed, and right on time.

However, there’s a part of me that feels that the subsequent positive reaction to his speech is due in large part to the fact that it was delivered at the BET Awards. Remember, it wasn’t the Oscars, Emmy’s, or even the MTV Awards. No, it was the BET Awards.

So, what does that mean? What it means is that we – grown people of color of a certain age – have come to expect the BET Awards to be a mixed bag of assorted foolishness and fuckery. No, don’t laugh – you know it’s true. Hell, some of us in the forty-and-over crowd, by choice, can’t even find BET on the channel guide anymore. So yeah, in that regard, Williams’ speech was the curve ball that shattered expectations.

This isn’t a bad thing. It’s just that it wouldn’t be a big deal if this is what we can all come to expect from anything produced by BET.

While it’s unclear whether there was ever a time in U.S. history when our beloved nation was all white. Even so, Tyler has dreams and aspirations of taking the nation back to a certain utopia, where life was a lot better for today’s racially oppressed so-called dominant culture.

In an interview with WRCB, Tyler claims to have no hatred in his heart for “people of color.” He added that he just wants to go back to “1960s, Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver time when there were no break-ins; no violent crime; no mass immigration.”

While I’m glad that he cleared things up by stating that he isn’t racist, I’m not sure how this would go over with people like me who have gotten used to reruns of shows like Good Times, The Jeffersons, and the occasional beatdown or police shooting we’ve grown so used to lately.

It’s no surprise that Trump’s campaign has inspired Tyler. On the would-be white freedom fighter’s website, he declared “the Caucasian race… the architects and progenitors of advanced civilization and high cultures.” And quite naturally, as all good white men like Tyler would do, he uses the Bible to justify his belief of superiority while hiding behind the First Amendment and “freedom of speech”. You know, like all bigots do.

It’s not that we didn’t know that people like Tyler still exist. One only has to look at the number of people drawn to Trump’s campaign rallies for confirmation. Also, not shocking is that many of Trump’s supporters aren’t the snaggle-toothed trailer-trash knuckle-dragging neanderthals as we’d like to think. Some of them are quite normal-looking average everyday white folks of all walks of life. What is scary, however, is that some of them occasionally run for positions of power and are successful.

Tyler’s “Make America White Again” billboard has drawn the ire of enough residents of his community that it was removed. Tyler managed to draw the criticisms of a few prominent Republicans in the district like Ryan Holmes. “There’s no room for this type of hateful display in our political discourse,” Holmes said in a statement. “Racism should be rejected in all its heinous forms in the Third Congressional District and around the country.” With that type of repudiation, one has to wonder what Holmes has to say about Trump, or whether he’ll be voting for him or not.

MOBILE, AL (WALA) – A Burns Middle school teacher has been placed on administrative leave over a controversial test given to some 8th grade students.

Some parents say the test includes questionable language and subject matter that just doesn’t belong in the classroom. The parents say they can’t believe it was actually given to students.

It’s a 10-question math quiz that highlights prostitution, drugs, and drive-by shootings.

While some of the kids thought it was kind of funny, their parents aren’t laughing.

“My son, he took a picture of it in class and he texted it to me. I couldn’t believe it,” Erica Hall said.

Hall said her son sent her a text photo of the quiz his eighth-grade language arts teacher passed out Friday.

Hall said even the kids thought it was some kind of joke.

“They took it as a joke, and she told them that it wasn’t it a joke, and they had to complete it, and turn it in,” Hall said.

Erica Hall and her husband headed to the school Tuesday for some answers.

After outlining the math for a problem involving an AK-47, question 1 on the quiz asks: “How many drive-by shootings can Ramon attempt before he has to steal enough ammunition and reload?”

Question 2: “Leroy has 2 ounces of cocaine. If he sells an 8 ball to Antonio for $320 and 2 grams to Juan for $85 per gram, what is the street value of the rest of his hold?”

Question 8 reads: “Tyrone knocked up 4 girls in the gang. There are 20 girls in his gang. What is the exact percentage of girls Tyrone knocked up?”

Listen, I’m all for “thinking outside the box” and utilizing unique and creative tools in education. Yes, especially when said methods have been proven successful. However, as a parent, I’m totally opposed to the use of negative racial stereotypes meant to denigrate any ethnic group of any kind as a tool when it comes to educating kids. More insulting to me is the assumption that this sort of test isn’t problematic. What it says and reinforces is the notion that black children – or more specifically, black people – are not that important. Why? Because I imagine that the supposition here is that this is the only thing children of color would understand. That in itself is racist and entirely unacceptable.

You may think that this is just yet another one of those things endemic to the state of Alabama. Interestingly enough, however, as the news report explains, this racist math test isn’t something new and has been the source of controversy in many states across the country since the nineteen-nineties. At this point there’s no word on the race of the teacher involved. But as the report below explains, the teacher in question was in her last year of teaching and had plans to retire this year. I could only guess that the teacher knew exactly what she was doing and was ready to go out with a bang by letting the world know what she thinks of certain people in society. If his doesn’t upset you, you might be a racist.

By now, you’ve heard of the tragic story of a four year-old African-American boy who fell into a gorilla exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo. The child was approached by a large silverback  named Harambe. The 17 year-old gorilla started to drag the young boy through the water. The child was screaming for help. His mother Michelle Gregg, powerless to save him, tells her son to be strong and that she’s there for him.

There was no other choice than to kill Harambe in order to save the young child.

It’s hard to have to put an animal down, but in this case it was the only way to save the life of a young child. Sadly, the usual brood of faux-liberal animal lovers see Harambe’s death as a bigger tragedy than the thought of a young boy almost getting killed or that a mother nearly lost her son to a wild animal. According to Racism in America, people are already at-the-ready with petitions against the child’s mother calling for her punishment for leading to the execution of their now-beloved primate.

This happened almost immediately after it was acknowledged that the boy and his parents are black. Que the inevitable racist undertones.

The well-being of the gorilla took precedence over the life of a young boy when it was discovered that he was black. It didn’t take long for the trolls of racism to rear their ugly heads cursing out and calling for the deaths of the boy’s mother. And almost immediately, the news media got in on the act.

It’s deplorable that racists can’t put their bigotry aside and would rather be condescending assholes instead of being good, sympathetic people.

The Daily News, a British conservative news site where their top stories are always about what the Kardashian/West family is up to – according to the right side of their pages – decided that it was a good idea to write about the boy’s father’s (Deonne Dickerson) criminal history. Racism in America writes:

Laura Collins, writer for DailyMail.com, wrote an article titled, “EXCLUSIVE: Parents-of-four whose son fell into zoo enclosure sparking killing of Harambe the gorilla as it emerges father has a lengthy criminal history – including kidnap and drug trafficking.” Collins writes:

“Seen here for the first time is mother Michelle Gregg, 32, who has four children by father Deonne Dickerson, 36, a man who, Daily Mail Online can disclose, has a lengthy criminal history. Criminal filings against Dickerson stretch over a decade and include burglary, firearms offences, drug trafficking, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and kidnap. In 2006 he was sentenced to one year behind bars for a drug trafficking conviction.”

Shaun King, a reporter at the New York Daily News, noticed the same thing. The story of the young boy who was in danger of being killed by a gorilla became a race issue. But King listed several examples of how similar incidents weren’t cursed with the problem for obvious reasons:

Last year, a child fell into the cheetah exhibit at the Cleveland Zoo. The child and his parents were never identified.

A leopard mauled a young child who scaled a fence at the Kansas Zoo. Not a single report mentioned the criminal history of anyone involved.

In 2014, two jaguars mauled a toddler who fell into the jaguar exhibit of the Little Rock Zoo. The child’s identity, the identity of his parents, and their criminal history was never mentioned.

Fifteen years ago a child fell into another gorilla exhibit and was rescued. The criminal history of the parents was never mentioned.

At the Pittsburgh Zoo, a child lunged from his mother’s arms into the African spotted dog exhibit and was mauled to death. The zoo actually settled a wrongful death suit with the family. I searched all morning to see if any media outlets mentioned the criminal history of the family. They didn’t.

A tiger at the San Francisco Zoo mauled a 17-year-old boy to death. A drunk family member was witnessed taunting the tiger beforehand. The zoo settled with the family. Again, not a single story was written on the criminal history of anybody in that young man’s family.

Of course, the good people at Fox & Friends couldn’t wait to sink their fangs into this story, ready to blame the dad for the incident and address his past criminal charges.

It should be noted that the child’s father wasn’t even at the zoo when this happened. Yet, Collins,the Daily Mail and Fox News wanted to not only bring up Dickerson, but also wanted to advertise the man’s mistakes. But, as King puts it, Dickerson has a descent job and appears to be a loving father. But, of course, that part doesn’t matter for today’s “journalism”.

News stories like this only serve the racist mind frame where black lives are demonized. How many times have black people been murdered, especially at the hands of cops, and there’s always some reporter – usually a white one – who instantly tries to dig up their criminal past or drug history, if one is there? (Sometimes they’ll sink low enough to create false images of the victims to make them appear ‘thuggish’, deserving of death.) The same is done here. Only no one thankfully died in this incident. Still, the call to uncover some dirt on the victims was answered. It’s a practice to devalue black lives.

And people wonder why some folks hate the media.

In many cases, these people tend to be delusional.

And that is what I have found within the video “White Privilege Doesn’t Exist” by Terry Swoope. This clean cut gentleman seems to have his head on straight. Still, the premise of his argument is solely based on one singular idea: privilege is based on money and wealth and not skin color. And he takes a nice amount of time (seven minutes and thirty one seconds) to hammer his point down. In the end, he wasted at least six minutes of this video because his thoughts don’t fully match the reality that exists.

Delusional Black People Act Like Terry Swoope

As soon as he starts off the video with “Privilege is based on money. It’s not based on race,” I knew I was in for a long video. And Terry Swoope did not disappoint in any way. His entire idea is based on acknowledging that there are (just as many) poor white people in existence to contrast the Black people. He also feels that the idea of white privilege is a sign of a self-inflicted inferiority complex. All in all, Swoope feels that white privilege is just another excuse for Black people to be lazy and blame White people for all the ills in their lives.

The biggest problem with this video is that Swoope has no idea how privilege works. You see, privilege is a special right or advantage granted to a particular person or group. What privilege does is allow people to have some advantages in situations that others may not. What it typically won’t do is eliminate and eradicate ALL situational circumstances. This is something called intersectionality coming into play. White privilege tends to intersect with classism, sexism, racism, and all the other isms that cause issues. Even still, I would hope that Swoope would have a better understanding of the fundamentals behind being privileged.

Then again, I can’t be shocked because his opinion was extremely limited into pinpointing one or two causes for privilege: money and wealth. And therein lies the problem: many of the systems that hold (Black) people back aren’t always caused/influenced by money. Many of the privileges that exist are systems people are born into anyway. And being born into a situation can cause much ignorance to the existence of the privilege. Money and wealth does make life easier, but it will never fully eliminate situations of privilege.

Let me give an example situation for people to think about:

Think about a person that was born crippled, African American, and female. Oh, and she is also a lesbian. This person now has four things working against her: race, sexual preference, gender, and ability. This does not mean that she won’t achieve. Also, she could have money (which can help with some of those lack of privileges).

However, there are situations that she will have to deal with because of “who she is”. There are going to be issues with her because of her being Black in America. Also, there are those that will hate her because she is a lesbian. Since she isn’t able bodied, she will always have to deal with needing someone’s assistance. On top of it all, she is a woman and women are consistently mistreated within this “great” nation of ours.

And that, my good people, is how privilege works.

End The Delusion About Privilege

Privileges exist for many of us. That is how life works. And just because people have issues doesn’t mean a certain type of privilege doesn’t exist. All it means is that the privilege that is possessed has limits. Thus, people like Terry Swoope and others that don’t believe in white privilege need to understand that their opinion has no bearing on what really exists.

Let me repeat: privilege exists for many people. Acknowledge it and act accordingly.

“I’m telling you, it’s an economic message,” Trump said. “If you look at President Obama, he’s been a president for almost 8 years, it will be 8 years, you have with black youth, with African American youth, you have a 59 percent unemployment.”

Get ready, because here’s where O’Reilly demonstrates how well he knows about African Americans:

“How are you going to get jobs for them?” O’Reilly asked. “Many of them are ill-educated and have tattoos on their foreheads, and I hate to be generalized about it but it’s true. If you look at all the educational statistics, how are you going to give jobs to people who aren’t qualified for jobs?”

Wow! I’m just gonna leave it right here because this is more stupid than I can take.

Ole’ Bill hasn’t been known as the sharpest thinker, even by right-wing standards. And he certainly hasn’t been known as the most open-minded. This interview is just another typical addition of O’Reilly’s ignorance regarding black Americans out in full display. And there has been plenty.

Several years ago, O’Reilly discussed having dinner with activist Al Sharpton in Harlem. He expressed amazement to see how civilized black people were acting. A few years later, he mentioned how Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, a professor at Columbia University looked like a drug dealer. And he believes that black men commit ten times more murders than whites and Hispanics combined.

And that is just a tip of the killer iceberg that is Bill O’Reilly’s mind out to sink the ships of logic and morality.

One has to wonder. Where the hell is Bill getting his information about black people from, because it’s obvious that his contact with black people is limited in the real world. Does he watch TV shows like Love and Hip Hop, the Real Housewives of Atlanta and The First 48 and think, “A-ha! So, that’s how black people are!” Does he do what any narrow-minded, angry white male does and frequent right wing and hate sites and soak in all the white supremacist propaganda? Or was it taught to him by racist relatives who despite having an abundance of white privilege is still mad as hell at the world?

Maybe it’s all three.

But Bill will never admit his racism or anyone else’s. After all, he doesn’t know any racists. He has a black female assistant.

A new analysis of Washington Post/ABC News polling strongly suggests this may be the case. A Post/ABC national poll this month asked:  “Which of these do you think is a bigger problem in this country — blacks and Hispanics losing out because of preferences for whites, or whites losing out because of preferences for blacks and Hispanics?”

A large plurality of Republican respondents nationally say that the bigger problem is whites losing out, by 45-19. I asked crack Post polling guru Scott Clement to break these numbers down among supporters of Trump and the other candidates, and it turns out that Trump supporters believe this in far larger percentages.

A majority of Trump supporters — 54 percent — believe the bigger problem is whites are losing out. Meanwhile, 37 percent of Trump’s supporters believe this strongly, again higher than among any other candidate’s supporters.

To be clear, correlation does not necessarily mean causation, and this is only one of many potential factors explaining Trump’s support. As Clement and Max Ehrenfreund write for Wonkblog, the poll also found that Trump supporters are more likely to say they are struggling economically. But as they explain, when you take these economic findings along with the above views on the racial question, it suggests that Trump supporters tend to believe their “losses are being caused by other group’s gains.”

I think political pundits do a disservice when they characterize Donald Trump supporters as being angry. They’re not angry. They’re fucking ignorant. Their ignorance fuels their fear, bigotry, and xenophobia. And, what’s funny about it all is that they’re mostly white.

I’m sorry, but if you’re white in America and you feel like you’ve lost something because an undocumented immigrant picks cabbages for 50¢ an hour, you’re not doing “whiteness” right. Like, so not right.

But no, in your head a vote for Trump improves your lot in life. I hate to tell you this, but it ain’t gonna happen, dumbass. Personal responsibility aside, you’ll still be a failure walking the earth blaming minorities, President Barack Obama, and “the mooslims” for your poor choices.

I swear it’s a damn shame when God blesses you with all that White Privilege and you can’t even use it right. Hell, it ain’t like Trump has allowed it to stop him. No, he’s rich and your ass is stuck with a thirty-year payment on a thirteen inch flatscreen TV from Rent-A-Center.

That ain’t our fault, fool.

A black person can get lynched on live TV during a Donald Trump campaign rally, and he’d still be the Republican presidential nominee. At this point, a person of color being tarred and feathered at one of his rallies wouldn’t slow his momentum on becoming the eventual Republican nominee. In fact, to hear Trump tell it, he is the victim when it comes to protesters showing up at his events. According to him, it is his first amendment right to free speech that is being infringed.

And, to add insult to injury, Trump believes he bears no responsibility for the acts of violence we’ve seen at his rallies. Because, as he put it, the people protesting at his rallies are the people who are destroying America. Which is funny because Trump denounced the protesters a lot quicker than he did David Duke, the Ku Klux Klan, and all the White Supremacists that have endorsed his candidacy recently.

In fact, to hear Trump tell it, he is the victim when it comes to protesters showing up at his events. According to him, it is his first amendment right to free speech that is being infringed. And, to add insult to injury, Trump believes he bears no responsibility for the acts of violence we’ve seen at his rallies. Because, as he put it, the people protesting at his rallies are the people who are destroying America. If you ask me, the people protesting Trump rallies are an example of just exactly what makes America great.

Like Trump, they too have a right to free speech. But hey, don’t tell that to the guy who wants to gut the First Amendment as president, to be able to bring libel lawsuits against the press. Y’know, because, “Freedom!”

Yep, let him tell it, the people who show up to protest against his islamophobic, racist, and all around fascist speech are the reason why America is no longer great; hence the reason he’s running for president with the sole intent to “Make America Great Again.”

I don’t have to tell you that Trump is full of shit. If you’ve read anything I’ve written  about him and his campaign this election cycle, I’ve made it abundantly clear. If you watch FOX News or frequent right-wing websites, I’m pretty sure that they’d have a different opinion. Like Trump, they would say that left-wing bloggers like myself and members of the biased liberal media are an example of what’s destroying the country. Hell, you may even run into more than a few Republicans willing to switch their support from Ted Cruz to Trump simply because, unlike Trump, Cruz is being too kind to the Black Lives Matter activists and protesters.

As a matter of fact, I really had hopes of David Duke running in 2012.  The media wouldn’t have given him the same airtime they today devote to Trump. However, as evidenced by what we’re seeing this election cycle, the reality is that there are some really sick individuals – some of them minorities – who would actually proudly vote for this jerk to be president of the United States.

I mean, you put a shitty toupee on David Duke’s head and teach him how to sound like a wannabe mob boss from New York City, and you’ll never know the difference. So yes, while Trump may claim to have no knowledge of David Duke, if he was really interested in getting to know him, he’d take the time to actually speak to some of the nutjobs that attend his rallies actually look himself in the mirror. Then and only then will he get it. But then again, we’re talking about Donald Trump – the son of a man once arrested for brawling alongside the KKK in the streets against the police. Yes, the same Donald Trump once sued by the federal government for housing discrimination in New York City.

But then again, we’re talking about Donald Trump whose father was once arrested for brawling alongside the KKK in the streets against the NYPD. Yes, the same Donald Trump once sued by the federal government for housing discrimination in New York City – you know, because he loved the blacks pretty much in the same way that David Duke does.

Oh yeah, check out how David Duke defends the Tea Party from claims of them being labeled racist in the video below. One thing of note, he claims Blacks are the real racists because 99% of “us” voted for Barack Obama in 2008. The truth is, 96% and not 99% voted for Obama. But what’s a few percentage points, right? The fact remains, the 96% of Blacks who voted for Obama, are just as racist as the 95% who voted for Al Gore and the 93% who voted for John Kerry. Moreover, what’s important is him making the point that “diversity doesn’t bring love and brotherhood, it brings the exact opposite.” So yes, per David Duke, the Tea Party isn’t racist. Hell, David Duke might even one day say that Trump isn’t racist.

If you’re reading this, then I can imagine that the title pissed you off, because it’s true. And experience shows that many of you hate the truth when it’s about you. So, I am aware that certain members of your people will express their anger, guilt and cry white tears by calling me racist names, cite examples of black crime, one way or another claim how your naturally “superior” to me, exclaim how not all of you, including yourself, are racist and that I’m the real racist in this case, tell me to go back to Africa, live in a post-racial society or anything else black folks have seen before when the issue of racism comes up.

But before you go off into your predictable rage against me, hang tight, relax, take a deep breath and read. Try not to cherry-pick, skim through it or misinterpret what’s bring said.

With that being said, white right-wingers, white left-wingers (Yes, you too.), white cops and average white people, I have to ask. What’s the matter with you? More specifically, why does black people celebrating, respecting and loving themselves for being black and recognizing their worth as full-blooded human beings piss you off so much?

I know you don’t think you have a problem with, in-short, black pride, at least some of you would say that in a heartbeat if confronted, but will quietly hold some animosity. But history and modern times involving some of you suggest otherwise. You have a problem with Black History Month in that there’s no “White History Month“. You dislike that there’s a Black Entertainment Television station and no “White Entertainment Television“. Lately, you got upset with Beyonce’s performance at the last Super Bowl with her song “Formation” and Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the Grammys with his songs. And you definitely seem to have some ill will towards the Black Lives Matter movement.

The history of white people is taught in schools and colleges across the country and is presented as story ideas for TV shows, specials and even movies. Even if a story logically calls for people of color to be the real stars, your people are still center stage. Why? Because there are white folks behind the scenes making the decisions. Hell, almost all of today’s media is owned by white men. As far as the media is concerned, white lives matter.

As far as American society goes, only white lives matter and they have been for a few centuries.

Let’s not pretend that this is anything new. Your people have held hatred for my people ever since before and after we were shipped over here against our will. (Yes, I’m bringing up slavery, but only for a brief moment to make a point.) And when some of my enslaved ancestors decided to no longer put up with your ancestors’ crap and got caught, they were punished. Heavily.

Sure, my ancestors were eventually freed, but that didn’t stop your ancestors from violently enforcing white supremacy. My people were lynched. Our neighborhoods were destroyed. Our attempts for prosperity was countered by destruction. And our fight for civil rights was met with scorn and chaos. All was done by white people. Your people.

Today, black people still face inequalities and racism at almost every turn. We are paid less than white people for the same job. We face racism in the hiring process. We are underrepresented and racially stereotyped in the media. And the education system is heavily drenched with racism against black folks.

I could go on, but I’m not here to hold your hand and educate you, especially when many of you don’t care to learn anyway. I believe you are capable of finding out this and more info on your own, but don’t care to do so as it will mess up your comfort zone.

And yet, here you are crying about how there’s racism against whites. Are you really that delusional?

You see, everytime black people have tried to fight oppression and instill black love and pride, there will be white people who will find something horribly wrong with it and some will try to eliminate it by any means. You may even call it racist or terroristic when we fight white racism, protect ourselves and fight back, if necessary. And you try to convince others and yourself how not racist you and society are.

The simple concept of cause and effect seems lost on you. For instance, if it wasn’t for police killing black folks in high numbers, there wouldn’t have been a need for Black Lives Matter in the first place. The Black Panther Party wouldn’t have been founded if it wasn’t for racist violence against blacks at the hands of police. Black History Month was needed to teach black history in a society that devalues and ignores it in favor of (modified) white history. Black media outlets are created by blacks due to the overrepresentation of whites and the limited and stereotypical images of blacks. In the end, white racism is the cause. Black pride is the effect. 

Black pride is not anti-white. But it is anti-white racism. (Some of you can’t or won’t seem to differentiate between the two.) Simply speaking, we want you to stop being racist against us. We want you to stop killing us. We want you to stop making everything about you. We want you to stop trolling websites that weren’t designed for you. We want you to cut the noise about how you’re “better” than us. We want you to stop telling us where our priorities should lie as if you give a damn about us when you really don’t. And we want you to stop trying to deceive us, as if we’re stupid enough to believe you, about how we’re “post-racial” when evidence suggests otherwise.

Basically, all we want you to respect us as you do yourselves. More importantly, we want to love ourselves for being black. And we simply want you to take some responsibility for your problem. Exactly how is any of that bad for you or racist against you?

Is it because you truly think we’re inferior to you? Is it because you want us to know our place and shut up as you continue to run us down. Maybe it’s because you’re not as non-racist as you think. I guess you prefer to live in your comfort zone and to hell with what reality, logic and morals say. Perhaps like some of my people are suffering from a slave mind, your people still think like slave masters and the only way you can have white pride is if you degrade and make black people feel bad for being black.

We are sending out messages as peacefully as we possibly can, and if you try to silence them, we will defend ourselves, because we value our lives more than you. We shouldn’t have to apologize to a people who would hate us no matter what for loving who we are.

And we won’t.
