Yea…I’m white and this was all obvious to me from a young age. In fact, I never even thought of it in those terms. I was never racist…raised by non racist, liberal parents. I’d have gotten in big trouble if I ever said something racist. Also, I was actually upper middle class as a kid and only became poor as an adult. You’re article is great but you come off as if you’re mocking whites or looking down on them. “What are you going to do, poor whites?” I get what you meant but my initially a bit put off. Basically, “poor whites” sounds like you’re talking down to a child or something. Just a bit of advice for wording in the future because I really enjoyed your article and, as a writer myself I know I always want feedback.

I agree with Isom. It stopped being a race issue in 2001 (at the latest) when Bush came into office and took bank deregulation away. Keyword: latest. 2001 was just the time when it all became painfully obvious.

Agreed. This is quickly becoming a class issue and not a race issue. It’s becoming about who has access to what resources and who’s being taught how to truly survive or make it in this modern era. Great article.
