I have had friends hurt, been accused of attempting to hit on, victims of Domestic Violence. An abused person will turn on you in a heart beat, jeopardizing your job, and your status in the community. Yes, this column did give me a chance to shoot off some steam. But Domestic Violence is bad for everyone involved. I know that my comments were offensive, and did not share any light on the subject, but just once I would like to see someone prosecuted to the full extent of the law, for beating the crap out of their spouse.  I did shoot off a bit of steam in my comment, but no one ever interviews the people who have are in the middle of Domestic Violence cases. Your statistic is an exaggeration based on your own personal experiences, no doubt, and it does not speak to the greater problem of abuse -- the abuser. They're the only ones who have the ability to end abuse. And while you may be employed to deal with it in whatever capacity that you do, it is not less worthwhile because you have an image of a "perfect" victim and outcome. In fact, you have a role and if you could be doing something more worthwhile, you may be in the wrong profession. Ok her it goes  You receive the call, you get the warrant, you take the pictures, you arrest the abuser, if there are prior charges you can keep the abuser locked up, ( the abusee usually pays the bail to have the abuser released 99% of the time) You set up a court date, You finally get to present your case to a Judge, and guess what, Little miss punching bag, recants her story in front of god and everybody, and there goes 100 man hours, and countless resources that could have been doing something worth while. So excuse me if I don't hear the violins playing anymore.  Oh, man I’m gonna be the most hated man in America, but I’m gonna tell you the real story of Domestic Violence, because in my personal life it’s what I deal with everyday.
